EtonHouse Karuizawa Preschool

EtonHouse International School Karuizawa is in the heart of Karuizawa, surrounded by nature. We offer a safe and nurturing English environment for your child to explore and become independent thinkers and communicators.
EtonHouse International Pre-School Karuizawa is inspired by Reggio Emilia approach and nature-based learning. We believe that children have infinite ways to express themselves, explore and connect these thoughts to their imaginations and build connections to the world around them. Our curriculum includes language and literacy, mathematical and scientific learning. Through inquiry, your child will bring ideas to the learning process and work with the support and guidance of teachers to seek answers and creatively solve problems.
Our program is designed to nurture a respect for the environment. Children are given autonomy to have experiences to explore the natural world. Our curriculum will incorporate climate, culture, and the community. EtonHouse International Pre-School Karuizawa values community collaboration. Families and community members are invited to join our school community and participate in your child’s learning.

Year Level Placement
Cut-off Date: 1st April
Children are placed in grade levels according to their age as of 1st April prior to entering the school year.

Placement Policy:
Our academic year runs from April to March, with an age cut-off date of 1st April. Final placement is determined after reviewing the student’s age, academic background, and social-emotional development.

Eric Notch
Principal & Head of Karuizawa Campus
EtonHouse International School Karuizawa
Eric brings over 25 years of experience in education in both the United States and Japan. Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of roles, including principal of an international elementary and kindergarten school in Japan, STEM coordinator and teacher at the elementary level, and a high school mathematics teacher. He is a passionate, child-centered educator who embraces an inquiry-based approach to learning, drawing inspiration from the Reggio Emilia philosophy and the belief that every child is a capable, curious learner. As a leader, he values collaboration and open communication, and is committed to building strong partnerships between school and families. He is approachable and deeply committed to nurturing each child’s potential. He is excited to work alongside students, staff, and families to cultivate an engaging learning environment where curiosity and lifelong learning can flourish.

Application Fee: ¥22,000 (Non-Refundable)
*The fee can be paid online at the end of the online registration form.
Registration Fees per Family: ¥220,000 (One time only, Non-Refundable)
Extended Day Care
*Daycare for 2 and 3 days per week
1. The days of the week to attend daycare needs to be fixed for the term, schedule is not allowed to change during the term. (You can change the schedule from the following term)
2. The days are not compensated if the day chosen happened to fall on a public holiday or when school is closed for Parent Teacher Conference day, Professional development days etc.
