EtonHouse International Pre-School Karuizawa is inspired by Reggio Emilia approach and nature-based learning. We believe that children have infinite ways to express themselves, explore and connect these thoughts to their imaginations and build connections to the world around them. Our curriculum includes language and literacy, mathematical and scientific learning. Through inquiry, your child will bring ideas to the learning process and work with the support and guidance of teachers to seek answers and creatively solve problems.

Our program is designed to nurture a respect for the environment. Children are given autonomy to have experiences to explore the natural world. Our curriculum will incorporate climate, culture, and the community. EtonHouse International Pre-School Karuizawa values community collaboration. Families and community members are invited to join our school community and participate in your child’s learning.

EtonHouse children benefit from the global classroom environment and a truly international standard of education.

Some unique features of our international elementary programme:

  • Small class sizes with rich student-teacher interactions.
Your child will be a part of a close-knit community where every teacher knows every child. Our boutique environment will give your child dedicated and individualised support.
  • Curriculum
EtonHouse Karuizawa welcomes students of primary level. While offering the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) our students’ learning is not limited within our classrooms. Complementing our academic strength, children will be engaged learning in the nature of Karuizawa for many of their units of Inquiry.
  • Our commitment to Nature pedagogy
Our unique outdoor education programme in Karuizawa, where we undertake camping trips, river trekking and forest explorations enhances the learning at EtonHouse Karuizawa. Your child will be closely connected with nature in a school that is committed to utilising the learning possibilities offered by the natural world.
  • A wide, borderless, community classroom
Learning is a process that involves the entire community.  In order for students to become contributing citizens to society, and to enrich your child’s learning experience, we as teachers need to build a sense of community inside and outside our school building. Our neighbourhood’s rich natural resources such as forest, local campsites, farms and ski resorts make the whole of Karuizawa our extended classroom.
